Objective 1:
To facilitate the transfer of technology to community based organizations, government organizations, educational
institutions and populations whose members encounter barriers to using technology. This
objective will be met by:
- Maintaining free-access community information system for the New York;
- Working to provide public access to computers to ensure that members of communities in the service area
have the ability to obtain and share information;
- Matching volunteers who have specific skills with non-profit organizations and signature community
programs and events needing such volunteers;
- Providing Internet orientations for the community.
Objective 2:
To help community-based organizations meet public needs and serve the public interest by:
- Integrating community information ranging from a calendar of events, arts and recreation, internship,
volunteer and service-learning opportunities, health services and education information;
- Supporting the growth of volunteer and service-learning opportunities for youth and adults in their
communities.
CANY Goals for present and beyond
- To reduce the high degree of information and resource fragmentation that block greater progress in the region;
- To ensure that citizens and organizations in the region are not completely locked out of Internet access
because they lack access to modern computer equipment;
- To contribute to an environment in which citizens and organizations may have access to a rich variety of
Internet tools that hold high potential for improving the quality of private and public lives in the region;
- To strengthen communities by helping citizens learn and develop from participation in the electronic
information age;
- To increase citizen involvement with democracy along with their participation in the decisions that affect
their everyday lives;
- To create an on-line information site for attracting high-tech, low environmental impact businesses to the
region and to keep former residents aware of the fact that economic and technological growth in the region
increasingly support their ability to return to the region for viable jobs and careers.
